FROZEN NORTH FANTASY HOCKEY LEAGUE RULES
Requirements
* Must be active and competitive.
* Must have a deep knowledge of hockey.
* Must be able to check your email and this site at least once a day. Offseason you can check in a 2-3 times a week.
League Settings
* Yahoo! Hockey
* 14 Teams
* 2 Conferences (Eastern and Western)
* 8 Playoff Teams
* Head 2 Head Format
* All team names must be the City/Region and Team Nickname with the First letter capitalized. (Ex: Seattle Bruins)
* All teams must have a logo representing their team name.
Probation Penalty Box
*A team will be placed in the Probation Penalty Box or PPB if they are found to be inactive or not doing the proper "housekeeping" of their roster. You will be given 7 days to take corrective action or you may lose your team. PLEASE keep your rosters up to date!!! It is vital so everyone can know who you have and also what your cap numbers are. Copies of everyone's rosters have been made by the league office and can be checked for accuracy.
Roster Positions and Size
3C, 3LW, 3RW, 6D, 3 UTIL, 2G, 7B, 5IR, 5IR+
* Each team will have a 35 man farm team with 3 NHL veterans (can have less players if desired) (HFFHL).
* Each team will have a 27 man roster on Yahoo (FNFHL).
* Each team is allowed to go over the 27 player roster size once the league finals are over. PLEASE NOTE that you must have 27 NHL players on your roster when Yahoo comes out in late August. Yahoo will not allow a roster of under 27 players per our guidelines. You must be back at 27 active players by October 1st (or pre-announced date by Commish) if you are over the roster size limit as Yahoo will only allow 27 anyway. IR players do not count towards the 27 player limit provided they are placed on IR.

Salary Cap
* Your salary cap will be $295 for the entire season.
* Your 27 man roster will count against your cap, but IR players do not count against the cap.
* Your minor league roster does not count against your major league cap.
* Once you call a player up, his salary will count against your cap while in the FNFHL.
* $295 may seem like a lot, but keep in mind this has to cover all players you drop throughout the year, as well as any players you add, fines received, and any salaries added during trades.
* This makes the contracts given very important.
O-Rank/Salary System
1-10 /$30
11-30 /$25
31-75 /$20
76-135 /$15
136-200 / $10
201-250 /$5
251-300 / $3
301--UP / $1
When trading players occurs, the maximum number of players with certain number of contract years will no longer need to be followed - it is strictly for league set up purposes so we have a base of contracts to go by. After a trade, it is possible to have more than 1 player with a 7 year contract, more than 2 players with a 6 year contract, etc. The idea of having contract lengths is to give a player a value over a period of time. For example, you don't want to give a 35 year old vet a very lengthy contract or you may have trouble trading him as his value should decrease as his abilities decrease - and yet he's signed for the initial cost. On the flipside, if you sign a young player and his value as a player was only $1 as his Yahoo O-rank was over 300 and therefore signing him to a 4 or 5 year deal would be well worth it. His O-rank should get even better as he ages and improves and therefore his value increases - and yet you got him for only $1 for 4 or 5 years!!!
Salary Cap Violations - VERY IMPORTANT!!!
If your team is over the salary cap, you will be warned by the Commish and have 3 days to take corrective action to get under the cap. If after 3 days you are still in violation of salary cap rules, you will lose one player of the value you need to get under the cap. Ex. - If you are $30 (or even say $28) over the cap, the Commish will remove one player of $30 in value from your roster to get you under the cap. This is of course if you do not do anything within the 3 day warning period. The least number of players would be removed to get you under the cap - in this case one $30 player and not 3 $10 players. Once removed, the removed player would become a free agent for the league to bid on. You may or may not like the choice made by the Commish, so PLEASE stay under the cap. All teams MUST be under the cap by October 1st (or a date pre-notified by the Commish) - NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
Trade Deadline
*The trade deadline will be set by the Commish once Yahoo makes the league active again. It will be last day Yahoo allows before the FNFHL playoffs start.
*Their will be no trading from after that date until the playoffs are over for the league. After the finals are over, trading can resume.
Trading Players
*Trades are approved by the Commish and will be processed as soon as he sees them. Trades can be vetoed by the Commish if he deems them to be too one-sided or those in which a team(s) is/are obviously in collusion with another team as determined by the League Office (Glenn). Collusion is taken very seriously and WILL lead to replacement of owners who do so. If a trade is deemed too one-sided, the two teams can re-negotiate the deal and submit it for approval or just choose not to do the trade at all.
*Trades are official once accepted on Yahoo during the season - so be sure of your actions!!! Yahoo has a two tier acceptance, meaning you have to accept it first and then click yes when asked are you sure?, so no mistakes can be made. Please post on the league Yahoo message board if any prospect(s) and/or pick(s) are involved.
*Trades during the offseason are official once accepted by all involved parties on proboards. However, once Yahoo has opened up Fantasy Hockey for the coming season and all rosters are loaded on Yahoo, trades are official when accepted on Yahoo from then, even though there may be some weeks left in the offseason. In other words, trades made using Yahoo are official whenever Yahoo offers Fantasy Hockey for the current season. Please include all players/prospects/picks involved in your trade posting on both Yahoo (when available) AND proboards. Posting a trade is considered to be accepting the trade by the posting person. A trade can be rescinded on proboards at any time provided it is not already accepted by ALL involved parties. Once accepted by all involved, it is a done deal.
*Multi-team trades involving 3 or more teams need to be done by the Commish in order to be processed immediately. These trades should first be posted and accepted on proboards just like any other trade. The Commish needs to process these on Yahoo manually in order to be done. Please advise the Commish via PM of any trades involving 3 or more teams so that they can be processed.
Releasing Players
* You can release a player at any time.
* When you release a player, you are responsible for one-half of his remaining contract.
* This figure will be rounded up to the nearest dollar.
* This will count against your salary cap for the current season.
* If you are releasing a player who has a 1 year contract for $1, it won't cost you anything, $1/2yrs =$1, $1/3yrs=$2, $1/4yrs=$2, etc.
* Example 1: $5 for 1 year player would be $2.50 and you would pay $3.
* Example 2: If you have a player signed at $30 for 3 years and you want to release him that would be half($15 x 3) and have to pay a total of $45.
* Releasing any HFFHL players incur no penalty, provided they are on your HFFHL roster at the time of release.
* Releasing an NHL FA during the offseason will incur no penalty.
Adding Players
* During the season, there is no limit to how many Free Agents you can add provided you have the roster space for them.
* You must place a bid on the player you want to add on this board.
* You can only sign the player to 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 year contracts.
* All other teams are free to place a bid on this player.
* The minimum bid is based on his Yahoo O-Rank at the time. Free Agents must have a Yahoo O-rank to be eligible for bidding.
* In order to win the bid, your bid must remain the highest for 12 hours.
* Read How To: Bidding On Free Agents below for more info.
Free Agents
* You can keep all of your players with no years left after the season. They can be re-signed for up to 5 years. This includes minor leaguers you own as well.
* They will be re-signed based on their Yahoo O-Rank the following season.
* Free agency will only be allowed from a date that Yahoo opens the new season and the Commish has set up rosters until the end of the FNFHL regular season. The Commish will notify
the league when that date is each year. Free Agency will be closed during the FNFHL playoffs and will open on the Monday after the final playoff game.
* Once free agency opens, you can re-sign your own free agents.
* The opening bid will be based on the O-Rank at the time.
* Free Agents must have a Yahoo O-rank to be eligible for bidding.
* You can bid as high as you want within your salary cap.
* See further free agency rule changes below.
When checking to see if a player is available, use these 3 steps:
1) Check Player Releases back to the most recent CPD Update Point. That is why I put those there and under Free Agency bidding.
2) Check the Complete Player Directory (CPD) to see if he is owned. Be careful to check all similar first name spellings - Ex. - Alex, Alexander, Alexandre, Alexis, etc.
3) Check the Free Agency thread where you are placing the bid back to the most recent CPD Update Point to avoid duplication.
If you use these 3 steps, this should not be an issue. Also, keep your leagues straight. A player who is available in another league may be owned here and vice versa. I usually start with the 2nd step listed above first and then do 1 and 3. Whatever works for you. Keep in mind that players can be released and then bid on very soon after or vice versa, so dates can come into play. I run across this sometimes. Now you can appreciate what I go through when updating the CPD.....and I have to keep trades straight too!!! If there are any questions, send the Commish a PM.
How To: Bidding On Free Agents
1. If you are going to bid on a Free Agent you must have room on your roster or state who you will be releasing if you win the bid.
2. You can only make a total of 5 adds a week, so dont bid on too many players where if you win all of them you cant add them all.
3. Whatever bid you win, you are now responsible for their contract, regardless of if you add them on Yahoo or not.
4. If you do not add a "won" player in 48 hours, you get fined $3. If you dont add him in the next 24 hours after that, you get fined another $3. And another $3 for every 24 hours after that until he is added or you receive $15 in fines. Once that happens, the player is a free agent again and the fined team is ineligible to bid on him.
5. Do not bid too much. You may have a lot of money now and decide to spend a lot on a guy who has potential, but in the long run he might not have panned out the way expected and you are stuck with a huge contract. Then you might want to release him and have a big release fee to pay. Trust me, I know this from previous league experiences...it sucks!
6. At the end of every bid after you have won after 12 hours, state "The (Your Team Name) have signed (player name) at ($? for ? years). Then immediately add him on Yahoo and place under your 25 man roster (or minor leaguer roster if he is a minor leaguer) the players name, team, salary, contract, and position.
7. Make sure every bid starts at their O-rank and not actual rank as of right now in the season. The bid could start at more than the O-rank but it has to be a minimum of their O-rank.
8. Title every topic the players first and last name.
9. In the message box put the players position, team, how many years and your starting bid. If you do not have room on your roster, then state who you will release as well.
10. Try not to win a bid and just forget to add player or forget about the bid, because you will be fined.
NEW FREE AGENCY RULES - VERY IMPORTANT!!!
The rules have been simplified and apply ONLY to free agents who are bid on and NOT your existing free agents that you want to re-sign!!!
When bidding on a FA the following guidelines will be followed:
1) Players "won" in free agency ONLY will now have a guaranteed contract if their value reaches $20 or more.
This also applies to a player whose starting bid is at $20.
There will be a list of guaranteed contracts kept on proboards.
This rule DOES NOT apply to free agents you already own and want to re-sign.
2) Bidding on players will follow the following contract length guidelines..........if a bid is:
$1-9 - Player can have a minimum of a 1 year contract
$10-19 - Player can have a minimum of a 2 year contract
$20-24 - Player can have a minimum of a 3 year contract - which is now guaranteed
$25-29 - Player can have a minimum of a 4 year contract - which is now guaranteed
$30+ - Player's contract is for 5 years and is guaranteed
3) Guaranteed contracts - Once a player's bid (even if it is a starting bid) reaches $20, the contract becomes guaranteed. This means that EVEN IF the player retires, goes to Europe, is put in the minors, etc. that contract is 100% guaranteed for the life of it. This is done to prevent outrageous bids for any player.
4) Players with guaranteed contracts CANNOT be placed in your minor leagues as the minor league veteran. This also means they cannot be released while under their guaranteed FNFHL contract. Their contract and roster space are to remain on your NHL roster while their contract is still valid.
5) It is encouraged that all owners check the guaranteed contract list before making a trade to make sure you know if the player you are acquiring has a guaranteed contract or not. If you say you did not know his contract was guaranteed when acquiring a player, that will not overturn any trade as the list is there for everyone to use.
MINOR LEAGUE - Hockey's Future Fantasy Hockey League (HFFHL)
*******Effective Sept 30/2013**********
1. There is a minor league salary cap of $75
2. Any contract with a $5+ value will follow standard FNFHL release fee guidelines. This begins with $5/1yr= $3, $5/2yr=$5, etc. These fees will count only against the minor
league salary cap. This includes current and future contracts.
3. The Vet spots WILL count against the minor league salary cap.
Our minor league will be run on proboards. Your minor league team will consist of no more than 35 players of which 32 are prospects and only 3 are for veteran players. If any of the veteran spaces are not used, it remains vacant as it is ONLY for an NHL veteran. The minimum number of minor leaguers is 10 players total. If you fall below that, you could be subject to penalties at the Commissioner's discretion. There are no penalties for this during the offseason. You are also allowed to have over 35 minor leaguers during the OFFSEASON ONLY. You must have 10-35 minor leaguers from Oct. 1st until the end of the Finals. Free Agency however will close as of the end of the FNFHL regular season, so you can only go over 35 minor leaguers from the re-opening of free agency in September until October 1st - a very small window. Penalties will be enforced at the Commish's discretion for teams that have over 35 minor leaguers after Oct. 1st as well.
Prospects are defined as those players with no more than 82 games played for skaters and 44 games played for goalies. Once those players reach 83 or 45 games played, each team will have NO GRACE PERIOD to either move them up to the major league roster, trade them, move them to a minor league veteran slot, or drop them and they will then become free agents, so it is VITAL to keep track of your minor leaguers. They need to be moved IMMEDIATELY or are eligible to become a free agent. When one of your players is put on IR, you can call up a player off your minor league team and then send one down when the IR'd player returns.
* Each team MUST specify the veteran players on their minor league roster with its own category at the top of the minor league roster.
* Your minor league roster doesn't count against your major league salary cap.
* When you assign a player (prospect) to your minor league roster, he is under contract for 3 years if he is acquired via the entry draft.
* A prospect is eligible for your minor league roster until he reaches the following career levels - 83 NHL regular season games played for skaters or 45 NHL regular season games
played for goalies. The only exceptions ares the three NHL veteran slots.
* If you drop a player from your minor league team, you do not have to pay any penalty unless his contract is more than $5 as specified above.
* If you send someone down to the minors, you do not have to pay their salary until you call them back up.
* There are no waivers in this league for any player. So call up and send down whatever player as you would want to.
* IMPORTANT - Please keep close track of your own minor league players with regard to NHL games played. If they are found to be over the amount of games played and still in the minors, their contract will be voided and they will become a free agent IMMEDIATELY for everyone to bid on!!! THIS IS VITAL FOR YOU TO FOLLOW if you do not want to lose any minor leaguers. The only player exceptions to this rule are the three veteran players you can keep on your minor league roster. This will force everyone to keep track of their minor leaguers with regards to games played eligibility.
Future Drafts
* Before each season, we will hold a 5 round minor league draft.
* This draft is not for Free Agents, only players drafted in the current years draft class. An exception to this rule are players who were drafted in previous NHL drafts who have
not yet played an NHL regular season game.
* The draft order will go according to the final standings once the playoffs are over. The bottom 6 teams will be put into a lottery draft. The team with the worst record will have
6 chances, 2nd worst 5 chances, etc. based on regular season standings.
* The lottery will be conducted and the two teams that "win" the lottery will go first and second in ONLY the first round of the draft. All other teams will follow based on worst
to best regular season record. The exception is for the FNFHL finalist teams, which will pick last (Champion) and next to last (finals loser). Consolation playoff rounds do not
count towards draft position.
* All subsequent rounds will be based on worst to best regular season record. Playoff teams are not eligible for the lottery, but will start drafting players after the bottom 6
complete their first 6 selections. The only exception is noted above for the league finalists.
* The draft will take place immediately (usually a day or two) after the NHL has done their draft.....usually the Monday after the NHL draft. The draft is a standard straight draft
and not a snake draft.
* Draft pick trading for the next two year's drafts will be allowed AFTER THE ENTRY DRAFT for this year. That means you can trade any and all of your draft picks for the next two
years AFTER this year's draft.
The FNFHL Commissioner has the final say on all rulings and may seek advice from league members on difficult issues. The Commissioner reserves the right to boot any team at any given time if they are committing behavior detrimental to the league in their view. Warning(s) are usually issued first, but in severe cases, do not have to be given. The only team guaranteed each year is Glenn's as he runs the league. All other teams have to be earned by being active, respectful, and honest. The Commissioner is always open to all suggestions from league members.
